those pesky sins

Lewis tells us about sins that keep popping up and what to do about them today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

He tells us that there are sins in each of our lives that don't go away over night. And it's reassuring to hear that, isn't it? That you're not the only one who continually deals with a certain sin that just won't seem to go away?

He tells us to keep whacking away at it. As long as we don't pretend like it's not a sin...and justify it. Or give up and let the sin take over our lives.... then we're fine. That's part of what life is about...learning to kill those particular sins that won't go away right away. That's what it means to die to ourselves. To take up our cross daily. Remember Paul asked three times for his thorn in the flesh to be taken away. But His grace was sufficient.

It still is.

God, thank You for helping us not give up, but just keep knocking those sins on the head until they finally, one day, go away.
