only when we ask

Today Lewis talks about the little bit of God in all of us, in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

Lewis tells us about the little bit of God's reason in us that lets us reason, and the little bit of His love in us that lets us love. Of course, it goes beyond that. We only EXIST because He exists. We wouldn't be anything without His making us so.

But He does let us make our own decisions. He lets us choose to go away from Him, and stay away, if we decide to. He won't violate our free will. He will come into our lives and teach us to write, by holding our hand, but only if we invite Him to do so. If we reject Him, He allows Himself to be rejected.

On the other hand, if you invite Him, He responds. If you continue inviting Him, He continues to respond. If we ask Him to fill us with His love and joy, He will do so. If we ask Him to set us ablaze with His Spirit, then He will light us up.

How much of Him do you dare to ask for?

God, please make me like your burning bush... ablaze, but not consumed.
