For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate

We're reading A Year with C.S. Lewis, available as an e-book from bn.com for $2.99. Today we read the Jan 20 selection.

I love today's reading. Lewis points out a great truth for us - that God is at work in everyone's lives already. There is truth in all religions, because they all catch a glimpse of Him from different, limited perspectives. But the fullness of the truth comes to us in Judaism, and then in Christianity.

Lewis said that the story of Jesus is a myth. It just happens to be a myth that really happened. The God who died and rose again. But we have dates, we have a church that still exists which He started... there really was a man Jesus, who lived and taught and died... in the time of a magistrate named Pontius Pilate. It's even in our creed. You might wonder why the Nicene creed mentions the man who sentenced Jesus to death. It's because it places the story in space and time. We know where and when... and therefore THAT... it happened. It's real. It's not a fairy tale or a dream. Jesus really died and rose again, and therefore you can have hope that you, too, will rise again to eternal life, just as He did.

This is a magnificent truth, and it becomes more and more precious the closer we come to the end of our mortal lives. We know that resurrection is real... because Jesus did it already. In the time of Pontius Pilate.

Thank You, God, for giving us a solid reason for our hope.

The Bible is full of proof after proof that is evident by history written by man.....it points us to only one answer, Jesus Christ.

This truth is indeed magnificent! Knowing it, possessing it within gives comfort like nothing earthly can.
