The OT reading is fascinating - and reminds me of Revelation. The gist is... people will wage war against God and His people, and then He will win and set up a Kingdom that will last forever. There is hope at the end of our struggles.
The NT reading is powerful. Jesus IS the Word of Life. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, He said. He gave Himself to us, to eat His flesh and drink His blood, in order to have eternal life. If we eat His flesh and drink His blood, we will have everlasting life. If we don't, we won't.
And, the take home lesson - God is light, and in Him is NO DARKNESS at ALL. none. not a hint. so if something is dark in your life, that's not God. you might have to go THROUGH darkness to get to God. but He is light. John makes it clear that He is light and love. there is no fear or darkness in light and love.
He casts them out.
