a cautionary tale

Today's readings: Daniel 5 1-31, 2 Peter 2:1-22, Psalm 119:113-128, Proverbs 28:19-20

We get multiple examples of the same lesson today. Belshazzar doesn't learn from Nebuchadnezzar. The people in Peter's example don't learn from the better examples they have. And in the Psalms, we get another example of people who just don't learn.

It's a little ironic to learn from people who don't learn, isn't it? You'd think it would be better to learn from people who DO learn? But we seem to learn best by reading about people who give us a negative example. The cautionary tale.

Let's choose to be wise today, and learn from others' mistakes.

God, thanks for teaching us through our own mistakes - and those of others.

Consequences were pretty serious too. Bam your dead! But not without telling them bam your dead! Daniel was a true brave heart to tell him what the writings were. Open our eyes America, their are consequences. God help us to listen and see your Son in our world today.
