roots

Today's readings: Isaiah 43:14-45:10, Eph 3:1-21, Psalm 68:1-18, Prov 24:1-2

Paul says something really cool in Ephesians today. And I really like the way the NLT translates it. In other version, it says "being rooted and grounded in love, you..." but the NLT says "Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong."

That's a beautiful image. When the storms in our lives come along, and they will, we will be needing some roots. If our roots go down into God's love... we will be unmovable. But more than that... we will be feeding on His love for our nourishment. His love will be absorbed by our roots, and it will be the food that our souls feed on. His love will become what we're made of. We will become His love.

So much transformative wisdom found in that one word: root.

Thank You, God, for giving us Your love, down into which we can grow our roots.
