nothing is impossible for God

today's readings: 1 Kings 22:1-53, Acts 13:16-41, Psalm 138:1-8, Proverbs 17:17-18

the idea of God's mercy continues today. we find it in the Psalm. it says "Though the LORD is great, He cares for the humble, but He keeps His distance from the proud."

this reflects our reading from yesterday, and builds on it. ahab meets his demise today... because he stops humbling himself before God and asking for mercy, and instead he fights against the prophet that is sent to warn him. he tries to outsmart God by wearing a disguise... and you just can't outsmart God.

but the Psalmist reminds us that He hears the cries of the humble. ahab was a very corrupt, rich king. and yet, when he humbled himself and asked for mercy, God said "do you see ahab asking for mercy?"

Jesus talked about this in His famous camel through the eye of a needle parable. is wealth a bad thing? should we shun money? well, the answer can be found in the Psalm today. He cares for the humble. money is dangerous, because we are tempted to trust it rather than to trust in God. we are tempted to become proud, rather than humbling ourselves before God.

but, as Jesus goes on to say, nothing is impossible for God. even the rich can humble themselves... as ahab does at one point.

God, please keep me humble, that i might continue to seek Your face.

Well stated Jeff, I actually loled at ahab, hummmmm let me disguise myself......deviation takes on a whole new meaning......wait what is the root of this word.....devil......now it makes sense. Humble is such a key quality that we need to strive to achieve. We need to focus on WWJD. It's all about our focus.....money is needed to survive in the world and to able us to help those less fortunate. Humility and truthfulness to God, ourselves and to others should be our main concern. God help me to focus on these things.
