jezebel... and the battle of the body

today's readings: 1 Kings 19:1-21, Acts 12:1-23, Psalm 136:1-26, Proverbs 17:14-15

wow, jezebel must have been one scary woman. Elijah seemed to be pretty fearless... he defied kings and soldiers alike. he stared death down and brought people back to life. but jezebel threatens his life, and he runs scared!

it's odd what scares us, isn't it? there is something that scares all of us, and the enemy knows what it is. and believe me, he will use it to scare you, usually right when you need to step up and do something good for God.

fortunately we've got the angels on our side, like Elijah did. and besides the spiritual battle, notice that Elijah needed to address the physical side of things, too. he was hungry and thirsty. when he had eaten and drunk, he felt better. so many times our struggle is a biological one, and our body can be our friend or our foe. if we take care of it, it will help our spiritual journey. if we neglect it, then it makes our journey harder.

God, please remind me to take care of my body, so that i can follow you with more determination.
