today's readings: 1 Sam 20:1-21:15, John 9:1-41, Psalms 113:1-114:8, Prov 15:15-17
in today's reading, Jesus says that we should do what God wants for us right away, without delay.
and many people wonder what God DOES want them to do. the only people who don't wonder this are people who don't care what God wants. because if you care what He wants, you will find yourself at some point wondering what it is. and many people think that figuring out what God wants is really difficult, and usually dread doing whatever it is.
what they don't realize (and what took me years to find out) is that God wants you to know His will for your life. not only that, but it's something you'll enjoy doing. He gives us our gifts and talents and abilities... He is the reason why you like doing ABC and aren't really fond of doing XYZ. for me, i love reading, learning, writing, and telling people what i've learned. i don't like basketball.
so, from that, i can probably determine that God wants me to read, learn, write, and share what i've learned. He wants me to use those gifts and desires for His glory, to help His kingdom. and here i am in this very blog, doing just that. He probably is NOT calling me to play basketball for a living.
but it goes deeper than that. there are things that He is calling me to that i DO have to spend time thinking about and praying about. but it's not like He doesn't help us. think about it... don't you think God WANTS you to do His will? of course He does. so when you ASK Him to help you figure out what His will is for your life, that is a prayer that He will ALWAYS say yes to. always.
so you can pray in confidence, knowing that God is going to answer your prayer with a "yes". isn't that a great feeling? every day, i try to ask God to show me what He wants me to do. and then He does, and He helps me do it. not only does He show me His will, He gives me the desire to do it, and He helps me do it. it's pretty awesome.
so i encourage you to ask Him. what do you want me to do today, God? what should i do with my life? start moving in that direction... and you'll be amazed what He can do with you.
thank You, God, for Your calling in my life.

Right on the mark of the NT readings but I got hung up by the OT readings today. I think a lot of us know something about Samuel, Saul and of course David but my gotcha character in this reading was Jonathan. Jonathan knew his grandfather Samuel was a God fearing and following man. His father Saul motives were questionable. But he was his father and he wanted to obey, trust and believe him. But because of Sauls jealousy of David he was doing all the wrong things (like trying to kill David). This goes back to his sin of doing things his own way instead of Gods commands. Jonathan wanted to believe in his father but his love for David enable God to use Jonathan to protect David. Wow, this is very profound. And David was telling Jonathan the truth and Saul was trying to kill David, and with much sorrow Jonathan protected David from his own father who Jonathan loved.
Lord help me to protect those from evil and discern the truth which is You in decisions in our world today.
