good soil

today's readings: Leviticus 7:28-9:6, Mark 3:31-4:25, Psalm 37:12-29, Proverbs 10:5

it's sometimes easy to think that Jesus was rude to his family, especially His mother. He calls her "woman" in several places, and when she comes to see Him, along with the rest of His family, He says "who is my mother and sister and brother? whoever does the will of God."

which sounds like He's insulting His family. but, being a good Jewish son, who perfectly obeyed the ten commandments, we know this isn't true. He knew that God desires all people to honor their father and mother - and He did so.

so we can assume that He wasn't insulting Mary, but that He was honoring her. we can read the meaning behind His words and know that, whatever it may sound like, He was in His heart treating her with kindness and respect.

I pray that God will so form my heart, that everyone can assume no matter what my words sound like, that I'm treating my family and my friends with kindness and respect, too.

that He'll make my heart good soil, and that it'll produce at least a few good crops.

Psalms 39:12-29 is an encouragement to us in current time. "The wicked draw their swords and string their bows to kill the poor and the oppressed, to slaughter those who do right. But their swords will stab their own hearts and their bows will be broken. The Lord will take care of the godly. Lord help me to be one of the godly that is under your protection from the wickedness in our world today. And as spoken recently by the beheadings, Come LORD JESUS.

My priorities have always been, God, family, and country. I've always had friends through the years but through God my family will always remain to the end.
