today's readings are Genesis 26:17 - 27:46, Matthew 9:1-17, Psalm 10:16-18, and Proverbs 3:9-10
there are many stories throughout the Bible that leave you scratching your head, wondering what the "moral of the story" is. the story of Jacob stealing Esau's blessing is just one of those stories.
we know that Isaac loved Esau, and Rebekah loved Jacob. we know that Esau was the first born, so he was "in line" to receive the blessing of the first born. but Rebekah and Jacob pull a fast one, and Isaac ends up blessing Jacob instead.
perhaps there was an element of not always doing things the way they've been done before here. who's to say that the first born should receive the blessing? why can't another child receive it?
or maybe it's a picture of how God works with fallen people. He's never working with a perfect family, a perfect person, a perfect situation. God is the master at taking sinful, fallen people and making a beautiful story out of their lives. here is one such example.
I pray that my life might be another.

As I read the OT again in this study, it should give us all a new found hope for our fallen sinful lives. God has a plan for us and he will be there when he come to him. It is refreshing to read and study that so many grave mistakes were done with conscience and planning and yet God remains firm and consistent. May He continue to work in my life. I am so blessed with our two sons.
