the humble dog

today's readings are Gen 46:1 - 47:31, Matt 15:1-28, Psalm 19:1-14, and Prov 4:14-19

so in the OT reading, God appears to Jacob in a dream and tells him not to be afraid to go to Egypt. this is before the story even mentions that Jacob was afraid to go. maybe He appeared to him before HE even realized he was afraid to go. isn't that what God does so many times?

in the NT, Jesus has another puzzling passage when he seems to insult a woman who comes to ask for healing for her daughter. if we look at the culture of the time, we see that Jesus was actually being kinder to the woman than the cultural situation dictated... but the thing that stood out to me was the woman's humility.

she loved her daughter so much, and so wanted her to be healed, that she suffered the embarrassment and humiliation of the cultural situation to ask Jesus for a favor. He sees her faith and grants her request... healing her daughter.

I pray that I will be humble and persistent in my prayers like the Canaanite woman was.

The situation of fear in our lives is satans attempt to make us doubt that there is a God who loves us. We all fall into to his lies all the time. God knows our heart and our minds. The love of our children is a small picture of Gods love for us. The woman was willing to go against everything in her culture for the chance that her daughter would be healed. How someone can not do everything in their power and humble themselves to save their children born or unborn is beyond my understanding and way beyond Gods deserving respect.
