odd stories

today's readings: Exodus 12:14 - 13:16, Matt 20:29-21:22, Psalm 25:16-22, Proverbs 6:12-15

today we read about the Passover meal. a couple things stood out to me.

one was that it was stated and then repeated that the festival of the Passover would be "like a mark branded on your hand or on your forehead." that's an interesting statement, especially in light of the mark of the Beast in Revelation... it makes you wonder if the mark of the Beast is not an actual mark... but rather some kind of festival or celebration? some act that people do, rather than a mark on their body.

but the thing I love about the reading today is that the Hebrews are instructed to do this series of rather odd things, and do them every year. the reason is SO THAT when their kids ask them "why are we doing these strange things?" then the story of God's intervention on their behalf can be told, and the little ones can then believe in God, too.

would that we have such odd things in our lives, that make people wonder and ask "why do you do that?" so that we can tell them the story of His intervention in our lives...

I've never thought of the mark of the beast being a festival. Something for me to ponder on. You know. more people might ask why we do things if we actually looked like we were enjoying life, not just living by a set of do's and don'ts.

I think you're right Laurie, it's what's in the heart that matters the most. After all Israel did outward things and God knew their hearts weren't in it.

Maybe the mark of the beast is the Super Bowls......just kidding. I recently attended a Christmas program at a non Catholic Church. I enjoyed it and after it was over the lady seated next to me invited me to the church saying I can tell you are a Christian where do you attend church? Made me feel Good in the heart that a stranger saw that in me.
