The story from Daniel is a favorite. But the verse from 2 Peter is where I landed tonight. So often we run ahead of God and are frustrated when He seems so slow. As the wonderful image above tells us, patience with God is faith.
But what of God's patience with us?
Have you ever wondered why those nasty, horrible, selfish people seem to live so long? Has it ever puzzled you why a sweet, caring, loving little boy or girl would get cancer and die? Or be killed in a car wreck? It seems so senseless... and if you don't think about it in faith, it might shake your faith in God.
But think about it from God's perspective. That cantankerous old nasty person needs His patience. If they died now, they wouldn't be ready for their eternity. It wouldn't go as well for them as it will with enough time for them to come to their senses and learn to love God and other people a little better.
And think of the sweet little boy or girl. Yes, it's rough on the relatives... and we have to trust God's grace to take care of them. But it's such a great reward for the little one! To be in the arms of Jesus right away... no waiting, not having to suffer the pains and heartbreak that comes in this life.
When you truly believe in Jesus and heaven, you find yourself agreeing with Therese of Liseux, who used to tell her mom that she hoped her mom would die soon. Her mom was aghast and asked why in the world would she say that?? "So you'll be in heaven with Jesus."
Thank You, God, for teaching us Your perspective.
