looking for ways to serve

today's readings: Joshua 3:1-4:24, Luke 14:7-35, Psalm 80:1-19, Proverbs 12:27-28

what Jesus says today makes total sense. if you go to a banquet and you expect to be treated with honor, then any little slight will set you off. if you go humbly, looking for ways to help, then any honor you receive will be welcome.

this is true in our non-banquet lives, too. if i go through my day looking for people to treat me with respect, then i will undoubtedly find someone who doesn't, and will get mad.

but if i go through my day looking for people to help, like Jesus talks about in the Gospel, then i will be happy with any respect shown to me in this life, and according to Jesus, will receive a reward in heaven.

God, please remind me to look for humble ways of helping others throughout my day.

If you focus on how people treat you when you are doing for others, you have your rewards here. I'll take mine in heaven please. And in my humble ( but opinionated mind) if you do it for the praise then you did it for the wrong reason. If you give and do for praise or to get something, then that is not of God. Don't keep score. Just saying......my beliefs.

Reminds me of the song when in Heaven when people come up and say,"Thank you for giving to the Lord".
