His promise

today's readings: Numbers 19:1-20:29, Luke 1:1-25, Psalm 56:1-13, Proverbs 11:8

today is all about promises. the angel promises Zechariah that he'll have a child in his old age. in the Psalms, the Psalmist praises God for what He has promised. He trusts in God, so why should he be afraid?

God has promised us things, too. He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. He has promised to forgive our sins, EVERY time we ask Him, no exceptions. He has promised to give us wisdom if we ask for it. He has promised that He loves us very much and will always take care of us.

He has made me some promises, too. after spending several years discerning my calling in life, He showed me that He is calling me to marriage. it is still a matter of faith for me to believe that I'll be married before too long. I feel rather like Zechariah and Elizabeth, trusting God to bless me with a wife and children in my "advanced age".

but I do praise God for what He has promised. I trust in Him... why should I be afraid?

thank You, God, for being so completely worthy of my trust and confidence. please help me trust You when my faith gets shaky.
